DURRËS. SHADOWS & SOLACE
Durrës: Shadows and Solace is part of a larger body of work created during a brief but deeply affecting time in Durrës, Albania. The series reflects the city’s layered character: a place where disruption and decay sit beside simplicity, resilience, and a profound sense of harmony.
What struck me most was not only the physical charm of the city’s structures, weathered walls, fractured textures, and quiet streets, but also the generosity of its people. In Durrës, I encountered one of the most welcoming communities I have ever experienced, whose warmth provided a striking counterbalance to the city’s visible scars.
This work was made using photographic film, then printed and scanned, leaving every imperfection intact. Dust marks, scratches, and tonal inconsistencies remain as part of the process, echoing the fragility and resilience found within the city itself. Through these images, I aim to present Durrës as a place of contrasts: shadows that tell of its challenges, and solace found in its humanity.
